
As a social worker Carin has been working with adolescents since 1997. She served as a clinical social worker and casework supervisor at MercyFirst Group Homes and RTC for foster children.
Carin also worked at Islip High School from 2004 to 2014 specializing in substance abuse. AtIslip Carin created a volunteer mentoring program, entitled “Project Connect” serving 45 students with 32 volunteer teachers. She taught professional development to the faculty, focusing on mindfulness, yoga and stress reduction.
Carin was the Co-Chair to the Islip Drug Education and Awareness Task Force Compass Coalition and successfully lead task force alongside the county legislator, school administrators, the local police department, with community and school organizations.
Carin has also been actively involved in her community. She has organized Red Cross Fundraisers for disaster relief, volunteered in her local soup kitchen, and served as a committee member for Ty’s Reef Foundation, bringing art to children in need. Carin graduated with a BA in Social Work (LSMW) from Salisbury University and a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Adelphi University.
Carin founded Embrace Yoga Center in New York in 2007 and lead the company for seven years where she successfully directed a team to teach yoga, meditation, dance, yoga camp, children’s yoga & movement, pre-postnatal yoga, mommy and me classes and mindfulness.
Carin was recently appointed as the co-chair of the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Social and Emotional Task Force lead by Scarlett Lewis of Sandy Hook. She is proud to be helping contribute to the team, a groups of powerful and gifted leaders, as they work together to encourage legislative policy to support social and emotional learning in schools nationally.
In her free time Carin can be found meditating, watering her garden, riding her bike, hiking the mountains or practicing yoga.
