I’m not a natural musician. There are times in life and music that I’ve often known the notes but not the music. I can do better.
I’ve played piano, flute, and am now learning the a five-octave folk harp. This time I want to approach music as a gift and journey, not as a performance appraisal.
I take lessons from harpist Nina Alperin (whose father was a great Golden Age Hollywood musician – she still gets royalties from the music to Gone with the Wind!). I will post music clips in the future.
I was invited to write a series of essays on adult piano playing for Nancy Williams’ site: Grand Piano Passion:
- Playing excerpts from Rustles of Spring by Christian Sinding
- Expression is the need of my soul essay, with title referencing Don Marquis’ famous cockroach, Archy, who throws himself at manual typewriter keys each night to write free verse.
- Adult piano lessons in a time-starved world essay about prioritizing art.
